Ear Hair Removal

Ear hair removal isn't going to be a part of my laser hair removal journey, but I know it's a problem for many men, and I don't want to leave anyone out. Thank you for visiting this site. Subscribe to the Hairy Truth newsletter to get updates and know when more articles are added.

Methods of Ear Hair Removal

Hair growth in the ear is a phenomenon that affects men as they grow older. Opinion is varied on the actual cause with some attributing it to testosterone with others terming it a hereditary condition, passed from one generation to the next. One thing is certain though: excessive growth of ear hair may affect your hearing ability. Further, ear wax may build up and attach itself to these hairs thus worsening the hearing problem.

The good news is that one can get rid of this unwanted ear hair. A number of options are available as a solution to this problem. The solutions may be either temporary or permanent. We will look at the temporary methods first.

Scissors? Not recommended

The most basic method is the use of a pair of scissors. It is as simple as cutting off the protruding hair. The problem with this approach is that you risk damaging the ear canal or eardrum while in the process. It is also superficial which means that you will soon have the hair growing back. This is problem the most common method people use for ear hair removal, but I so totally don't recommend it. It makes me majorly nervous.

Tweezers

Alternatively, you can use tweezers. They are safer to use than scissors. Only use tweezers that have a strong grip and straightened tips. The down side of using tweezers is that hair removal is painful when compared with other techniques. I have personally used tweezers in some

pretty tender areas and have been able to tough it out. Maybe you can, too.

Trimmer

You could also use a trimmer. Use of this option requires as much caution as would be required when using tweezers. However, there is almost no pain when using trimmers. Trimmers can also be used to trim the hair on the back of the neck or eyebrows.

Some people use ordinary razors I hear (probably for the stuff on the lobe and not the stuff that grows out of the ears) but this is probably the riskiest to do considering the space you have to maneuver. It is so not recommended.

Chemicals and Creams--Only if it says okay on the box

When it comes to longer lasting or permanent solutions, you can use chemical hair removal products, depilatory creams and laser technology. When using chemical hair removal products, you must follow the instructions given by the manufacturer to the letter if you are to obtain best results. Chemical hair removal products work by melting all the unwanted hair. This is better used on the lobes. DO Not USE for the hair that actually grows in your ears. Please don't shove anything in your ear canal.

Laser

Finally, you can go for laser hair removal. Though more expensive than any of the other methods, it is the most effective when it comes to permanent hair removal. The laser beam is used to destroy each strand of hair from its follicle thus preventing future growth. It is important to note though that this treatment option is best suited for people with light skin complexion.

There is a really great article about ta seventy-two-year-old man that had a hearing problem caused by the hair in his ears and how they used a laser to help him. Go here for the article.
