Laser Hair Removal Facts (part one)
One of the best, long term ways to remove any unwanted hair from the body is laser hair removal. Whilst it may be a little on the expensive side, with results that last up to a couple of years on average, it is definitely worth the cost if you can afford it.
How the Treatments Work
Introduced in the late 1900's, laser hair removal destroys all active hair follicles. A laser beam is shone onto the area of unwanted hair and it destroys the hair follicle under the skin. The results will depend entirely upon what stage of growth your hairs are currently in and also the colour of your skin.
If you have white or blond hair then the results will typically last for up to one or two years. However, if you have dark hair then the results will usually last a lot longer. This is down to the pigments in the skin as the laser beam targets the melanin. It is the contact with the melanin that ultimately destroys the hair follicle.
The treatment itself shouldn't hurt. However you may feel a stinging sensation. Most people find that they cope with the treatment quite well. Again it will depend upon the area that you are trying to treat. If it is a sensitive area then you may be given a topical anaesthetic before the treatment is administered.
