Nads Hair Removal
Using the Nads Hair Removal sugaring system is one of the many stops on my lifelong hair removal quest. After years of shaving, waxing, and just being hairy, I've now decided to save and commit to trying laser hair removal. Will it work?
We'll see. (It's March 4, 2010 now so check this site and subscribe via RSS to get all the latest details and photos).
DISCLAIMER: I'm just a hairy girl, and have no medical authority whatsoever. This is just a review of my experience and not medical advice or anything. Ask doctor. Don't sue me. Read the instructions and warnings and stuff. Check for allergies. Test. All that jazz.
Here's the absolute no holds barred truth about Nad's Hair Removal:
Did you see it on the infomercial, too?
I totally was mesmerized by an Australian lady talking about using "sugaring hair removal" instead of waxing. To prove it was all natural, the people in the infomercial actually TASTED IT! The Australian lady even said over time that the hair growth is slowed. Is this true? Does Nads work? I had to find out. So before it was even available in stores, I ordered Nads via their TV commercial.
The good news
I'll cut to the chase. Nads hair removal works! In my experience it was way less painful than waxing. It is also way easier to take off the excess if you make a mistake. Ever drip wax on the wrong part of your bikini line? Nightmare! With Nads you can wash it off with soap and water. It's kind of a pain, because you have to dry off all over again, but I've been able to just wipe some off to wash later and continue on my merry way.
Easy to use
A few seconds in the microwave. Paste it on thinly in the direction of the hair growth with the popsicle stick they give you. (test the sugary stuff to make sure it's not too hot first). Then apply those dryer-sheet like strips they provide in the box. Smooth down in the direction of the hair growth. Hold skin taut. Quickly remove strip in opposite direction of the hair grown.
It hurts way less than waxing
Hand to heart! It hurts way less than waxing, which if you're like me and can get a little flinchy half way through means you're likely to get through both legs.
Okay, I did taste it
Yes, it tastes like honey and sugar. I'm not sure if you're really supposed to taste it (so read the package), but I did and I didn't go blind or anything. I've done waxing hair removal and sugaring hair removal, and I also agree that sugaring is NOT as painful at waxing and easier to do at home.
Also, even though it may not be recommended, when I missed a spot or if I tried to re-use a strip with the sugaring stuff on it like they do in the commercial (you know they just rip it off and then press it onto another part of leg and rip again) it would miss parts, I went over it and did it again. It's probably not the best idea, but it did get the spots. I'd never try that with waxing, because the skin always feels to sore, but it didn't and so I did, and it was irritated a little more but it worked.
Mustache, facial hair
It is much gentler on the face, but for me it seemed to miss some hairs, but I just plucked them. Also, I could wash it off easier so I didn't get as many pimples and blemishes as I've done while trying to wax. And if you've ever gotten a little wax on your lip and gotten that red lip thing going, you'll be glad to know that warm water and a towel easily wipes of the excess so you can avoid that happening.
Less skin redness
Unlike waxing that leaves me with bumps and redness, the sugaring was gentler and the redness that did develop
A little bad news
If you're not really hairy, sugaring with Nads Hair Removal gel(or other sugaring products, but I don't know any of them) is probably a really good solution. You can save a lot of money on waxing and the growth does not come back as much as it did before. However, the sugaring solution does miss more spots than wax so it's better to do smaller areas at a time, which means it can take longer.
Not enough of those strip thingies
That's another beef I've had with both waxing kits and even this Nads Hair Removal gel kit. They never give you enough of those strips to suit the amount of sugary stuff. But there are tons of places to buy more of those strips and they are super cheap.
The ONE thing that I wish I KNEW About Nads Hair Removal
ANTS!! I mean tons of swarming ants. Totally swarming the trash where I threw away the used strips. A line of them marching toward the container, where a TINY, TINY bit had dripped on the side that I didn't completely wipe away. Another line marching toward the towel I sat on to not get any on my floor (that I swore I rinsed out and was hanging in my bathroom).
Now, I live in Southern California and it was summer time so a lot of the times the ants really head indoors when it's hot. BUT still. MAKE SURE to take out the trash, totally throw your towel straight into wash machine. Forget about trying to reuse that stick they give you and throw it away. Make sure the container is totally wiped off with warm water. Or you'll have ants, EVERYWHERE.
Why I stopped using Nads Hair Removal
I'd still be using Nads Hair Removal (I totally RECOMMEND IT), but I'm getting laser hair removal soon and they advise to stop plucking and waxing before you do it. You can still shave though. I'm going to buy an at home laser to try some on my own, and also go and get some done. I'm waiting until I'm back in Los Angeles, and I'll scout out some clinics. Try to get a great deal, and tell you all about it.
Best of luck to us all!
